Providence Cedars-Sinai Tarzana
Medical Center Patient Tower to be Named for Family

A generous, dedicated and civically-engaged family that made its fortune in Southern California are continuing a long tradition of philanthropy with a record $50 million gift to Providence Tarzana Foundation, a transformational donation that will support the expansion and renovation of Providence Cedars-Sinai Tarzana Medical Center. The new, five-story patient tower will be named the Friese Family Patient Tower to honor Donald and Andrea Friese, their children and grandchildren. The donation marks the largest ever to a Providence hospital in California and is among the largest across the 52-hospital health system.

“Don and Andrea Friese are giving the most precious gift of all to their local community,” said Matthew Rinnert, Chief Philanthropy Officer, Providence Tarzana Foundation. “The gift of health and wellbeing.”

Introducing the reimagined
Providence Cedars-Sinai Tarzana Medical Center.

Coming early 2023.

Healthcare in the San Fernando Valley is on the cusp of a remarkable leap forward.

We’re proud to introduce Providence Cedars-Sinai Tarzana Medical Center, the single largest healthcare construction project in the history of the San Fernando Valley. The product of a synergetic partnership between Providence and Cedars-Sinai, this state-of-the-art modernization will transform the current Tarzana hospital into a world-class medical campus in 2023. With an exceptional facility right in their backyard, Valley residents will no longer have to drive over the hill to find the best in modern healthcare.

Build the Future of Medicine

We invite you to learn more about your new hospital, and consider this rare opportunity to become an integral part of history – by helping us build the future of medicine to Tarzana.

“The San Fernando Valley has been our home for decades. We’ve raised our family and built our business in Southern California. We want to give back to the community that has given us so much. We can’t think of a better way to express our gratitude than to help bring world-class health care close to home.

The Emergency Department at Providence Tarzana has provided lifesaving care for decades. Our facility is certified as a STEMI Receiving Center (SRC), a designation that allows us to treat patients suffering from a specific form of heart attack that requires immediate, specialized treatment. Our Emergency Department is also accredited as a Stroke Receiving Center, meaning we’re staffed with a specialized team that provides crucial stroke care 24/7/365.

Over the years, the need for these and other critical services has risen dramatically. Consider that our facility was originally designed to accept 40 patients a day and we’re currently treating up to 200. A larger, modernized, more capable Emergency Department is essential.

In 2023, our new Emergency Department will rise to the challenges of our growing community. We’ll expand from 18 treatment bays to 33, upgrade to the latest medical equipment and add to our distinguished staff. The result will be an Emergency Department that’s fully equipped to deliver the best possible care for our growing communities.

Robotic surgery and medical imaging are rapidly advancing fields that are continually improving surgical outcomes with less invasive and more effective techniques. The operating room of today must be built with these sophisticated technologies in mind.

Our new campus will give Tarzana Medical Center 13 new, fully modernized operating rooms, including a revolutionary hybrid surgical suite. Housing the latest in real-time, 4D imaging devices and designed specifically for cardiovascular surgery, the hybrid suite will bring cardiac surgical capabilities to Tarzana Medical Center that were typically exclusive to much larger hospitals.

We’re here for your health. Not profit.

Providence is a non-profit healthcare organization. Every dollar we earn goes back into our mission of serving the community and giving our patients the best possible medical care. Rest assured that any donation you make will go directly where you intend – into the pursuit of progress, health and happiness.

This new hospital is a critical investment in Tarzana. When you consider what it takes to build and maintain a state-of-the-art medical campus and the increasingly small margins in healthcare coupled with a growing and aging population, it’s easy to see why two non-profit organizations simply can’t do this alone. We must rely on the generosity of our neighbors.
