Robin Richards

Board Member

Robin D. Richards is an entrepreneur and businessperson who founded CareerArc Group LLC, LEXI International and Biassess Strategies LLC and who has been at the helm of 10 different companies.

He occupies the position of Chief Executive Officer, CFO & Director at The Baby Barista Co., Chairman at CharterAuction.com, Inc., Chairman & Chief Executive Officer for Notification Technologies LLC, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer for Internships.com LLC and Chairman at Social Sentinel, Inc. Robin D. Richards is also President of Chase Foundation and on the board of 8 other companies.

Robin D. Richards received an undergraduate degree from Michigan State University and an undergraduate degree and a graduate degree from Whittier College.

Donna Stillo

Board Member

Donna Stillo moved from New York and completed her education in Los Angeles. She has been involved with owning or starting numerous businesses, from furniture manufacturing, spec homes, yoga studios, packaging, and more. Donna has always been community service minded and feels most fulfilled when contributing her time and efforts to others.

What motivates your desire to give back?
Volunteering and philanthropy have been an important part of my adult life. I feel so fortunate to have been blessed with so much goodness and I can’t think of a better way to show my gratitude.

Why are you supporting the medical center? 
I had cancer in my 20’s and had surgery and care at Tarzana Hospital so, in many ways, it was not only lifesaving but life changing for me. 

Why did you agree to join the foundation board?
Tarzana has been my hospital for forty years. I’m truly honored to be affiliated with the hospital, The Sisters of Providence, and Cedars Sinai. This hospital is close to my heart and such a worthy organization! 

Keith Wasserman

Board Member

Keith Wasserman founded Gelt, Inc. in 2008 during the height of the recession and financial meltdown. Keith has been involved in the acquisition of multifamily, self storage, and mobile home park properties in the Western US. Gelt’s current portfolio is valued in excess of $2.1 billion. He oversees the company’s operations, marketing, investor relations, acquisitions, development, and disposition services.

Keith graduated in 2007 from the University of Southern California from the Marshall School of Business. Keith leads Gelt’s charitable giving program and recently teamed up with Damian Langere to form The Resident Relief Foundation, a 501(c)(3) public non-profit whose focus is on helping renters avoid eviction upon an unexpected financial emergency. Keith is also a member of YPO (Young President’s Organization) and a Member of the Board of Trustees of Milken Community School. 

What motivates your desire to give back?
I was taught from a very young age about the concept of tzedakh; The Hebrew word for giving back. I feel a moral obligation to give back to organizations that have been impactful in my life. Giving back is a selfless act that I intend to instill in our children at an early age. 

Why are you supporting the medical center? 
I was born at Tarzana Hospital. My three amazing children were brought into this world there. I feel a deep connection to the San Fernando Valley where I grew up. My business is headquartered there, and we are major stakeholders in the immediate vicinity with sizable real estate holdings. I’m very long the 818!

Why did you agree to join the foundation board?
I wanted to bring youth, fresh ideas, and excitement into the Boardroom. The hospital is going to be a world class hospital, and I wanted to be on the ground floor of it all. I see it as a game changer for the entire San Fernando Valley bringing top notch medical services to the people. 

Leslie Goetzman

Board Member

Leslie Goetzman’s professional background is in Human resources Management and Consulting. She specializes in workforce staffing solutions, executive support, recruitment, personnel assessment, training and policy oversight. She has served on independent, not-for-profit school boards for more than 20 years and has chaired their Governance and Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Justice (DEIJ) committees. A longtime San Fernando Valley resident, she attended Campbell Hall, Providence High School and UCLA. She is married to Gary Goetzman and they have two adult children.

What motivates your desire to give back?
We are all connected through and by service and resources. I believe they are inextricably linked. Giving to a community so it can serve the community is easy motivation. 

Why are you supporting the medical center? 
To have access in the Valley to a premiere facility with excellent care bolstered by a mission of service is a remarkable gift. It is exciting to support the facility and the humans who are making this opportunity and this care and service possible. 

Why did you agree to join the foundation board?
I joined because of the people and the mission. The connection and interrelationship is strong and I believe in the work.

DJ Friese

Board Member

Donald “DJ” Friese Jr., is the president and CFO of The Friese Foundation, a charitable foundation committed to the welfare of children, animals, veterans and first responders. In his work with The Friese Foundation, DJ focuses on learning about the different causes, committing not only his financial resources, but also his time. He works with other philanthropists to network and educate others about the organizations he supports. DJ is a devoted father of two and commits a considerable amount of time to his family and spending time with his kids.

What motivates you to give back?
I have lived in the Valley all my life. I appreciate the community and want to give back. The community needs more advocates to help grow the available resources.

Why are you supporting the medical center?
The medical center is at the foundation of our community and is a critical resource to everyone in the Valley. It is a logical choice to support and help expand their services.

Why did you agree to join the foundation board?
I wanted to better understand the needs of our community. I want to be a voice and an advocate for the Valley.

Cary Lefton

Board Member

Cary J. Lefton is Chief Executive Officer of Agora Realty & Management, which he founded in 1986. He began his career in 1980 as a real estate broker, specializing in commercial real estate, with Arthur Rubloff and Company of Southern California. In 1982, Cary joined Westwood Properties as vice president of acquisitions, where he successfully negotiated for commercial and industrial real estate throughout the Southern California region.

Cary attended the University of Southern California where he majored in Political Science. He has been married to his wife Marla for over 40 years. Marla is an artist who enjoys painting with oils on canvass.  Cary and Marla have two sons, Ryan and Aaron, who also work for Agora. His hobbies include, collecting wine, tennis, skiing, traveling, sailing and playing with his grandchildren.

What motivates your desire to give back?
I would like to think that by volunteering my time and donating money to charitable causes my efforts will help make a positive change in the community in which my family and I live and work in.

Why are you supporting the medical center?
I am supporting because a “state of the art” facility providing the highest standard of healthcare is desperately needed for our community.

Why did you agree to join the foundation board?
As a stakeholder in our community, I feel it is my responsibility to further support the efforts and investment that Providence Cedars-Sinai Tarzana Medical Center are making in our neighborhood.

Greg Goetzman

Board Member

President & CEO of The Goetzman Group, Inc, a finance and accounting consulting firm, for the past 22 years.

Greg is a valley native, having attended Notre Dame High in Sherman Oaks and maintaining his valley roots through college attending CSUN and becoming Executive Director of their SPACE organization overseeing a variety of entertainment programs and concert events for the campus.

His studies and BS degree emphasis was Business Adm/Marketing. Greg has a wife and 2 children.

What motivates your desire to give back?
Attaining any level of success without giving back to the local community in some ways feels selfish.  The new Cedars Providence partnership felt like the perfect vehicle to attach to since the valley has been dreaming of this moment for decades and it is now becoming a reality.

Why are you supporting the medical center?
Embracing the mission and values of Providence and Cedars has been an easy exercise.   From personal experience I have seen the tremendous value the hospital offers to the local community.  Our twins were born at Tarzana Hospital and the level of care was exceptional. 

Why did you agree to join the foundation board?
To make a difference.  Now, more than ever, the local community needs our help. The foundation’s fund raising efforts will go far in helping all local residents elevate their level of care.

Scott Caswell

Scott Caswell graduated from Cal State Northridge with a Bachelors Degree in Finance and Real Estate.  Upon graduation he immediately stepped into Commercial Real Estate.

Scott is a Principal and the Managing Director of Lee & Associates LA North Commercial/Industrial RE office with long continued history of being acknowledged as the Broker of the Year. Scott is married to Rana Caswell and they live in Tarzana.

Rana actively practices Acupuncture and Wellness.  All his three daughters are individually successful in their rightful career paths.   Scott and Rana love traveling, skiing, boating and the great outdoors.

What motivates your desire to give back?
Growing up in a family who have always been charitable, I see the joy/value in giving. I have been very fortunate to have built a successful career in Commercial RE in the San Fernando Valley and the medical center was an outstanding way to give back to the those who have helped me become successful.

Why are you supporting the medical center?
I consider the Medical Center a very noble cause and a long term game changer for the SF Valley which offers everyone to state of the art medical services vs. all other options.

Why did you agree to join the foundation board?
I sincerely believe I can make a difference, add value and compliment the board.  I have a unique skillset and drive to succeed in any goals I set my mind to.

Adam Saitman

President & Chief Executive Officer at Comet Electric, Inc.

As President and CEO, Adam utilizes his extensive background in electrical construction and design to challenge each employee to strive for perfection.

His diverse knowledge and experience allow for a very practical and realistic approach to each unique project. He has held various positions throughout his tenure with the firm culminating with his current position as President and Chief Executive Officer.

He holds a degree in Business Management and Marketing and has received several industry awards and recognitions. He remains actively involved with the Executive Team on the day to day operations of the firm, and has served as a consultant on various industry and council committees. He is an active member of the National Electrical Contractors Association, and a long standing supporter of local growth and alumni organizations.

What motivates your desire to give back?
I believe it is my responsibility to give back to those in my community, and to leave the world a better place than I came into it.

Why are you supporting the medical center?
I am a lifelong resident of the San Fernando Valley.  Both my children were born at Tarzana and have always felt a connection to it since then.

Why did you agree to join the foundation board?
I want to do my part to ensure that our community has top of the line health care in the area we live.

Lynne Zuckerman

Board Member

Lynne has been an independent paralegal for over 40 years in the San Fernando Valley. She currently works with the Law Offices of Lin Meyer, Inc. in Tarzana.

Lynne has been associated for many years with non-profit organizations. She is a member of the Generation to Generation Society of The Executives, Los Angeles Jewish Home, and is Past President and a Sustainer member of National Charity League, Inc., a nationwide organization of mothers and daughters developing strong women leaders while serving their local communities.

Lynne and her husband Robert, a local chiropractor, have a blended family of four daughters and one son.

What motivates your desire to give back?

As my family before me, I have prioritized participating in philanthropy and supporting my community throughout my life.

Why are you supporting the medical center? 

The need for a new, state-of-the-art medical facility in the San Fernando Valley, that can deliver excellent care for this community without having to drive long distances. Providence Cedars-Sinai Tarzana Medical Center has been the hospital of choice for my family for many decades. My parents, in-laws, children and grandchildren have been cared for at Tarzana. Supporting the medical center is part of supporting the community.

Why did you agree to join the foundation board?

It allows me to participate in ensuring that all in our community have access to excellent healthcare now and in the future. I am also proud to carry forward the legacy of my father, Earl Greinetz, the founding Chairman of the Providence Tarzana Foundation Board of Governors.

Susan Wohl

Board Member

Susan graduated from San Diego State University with a degree in Journalism. She worked in public relations and advertising as Director of Publicity for KMPC Radio, under Gene Autry and his team. She then joined her father at Goldrich, Kest, Hirsch & Stern Real Estate Development Company, where she’s currently Managing Partner/Co-Trustee of the Hirsch Family real estate holdings and investment portfolios.

As Director/CFO of the Bob and Nita Hirsch Family Foundation, she’s in charge of family giving, as well as being involved with several other Boards, including the Skirball Cultural Center, and the Los Angeles Sports & Entertainment Commission.

Susan and her husband Alan have 3 adult children.

What motivates your desire to give back?

To me, it’s a privilege and an honor, and has always been part of my life. I’m very lucky to be in the position I am and am forever grateful to my parents.

Why are you supporting the medical center?  

Supporting the Medical Center means helping our community with the power of Medicine and brilliant Doctors who provide that care and treatment. 

It means being part of the newer and improved Providence Cedars-Sinai Tarzana Medical Center, where all patients will receive the best care and services available in the City or Valley.   

It’s where I gave birth to both my boys, and all of our family doctors are a part of.

Why did you agree to join the foundation board?

Once I heard about the hospital’s plans through other Board members, I felt a calling to join the campaign. It’s such an important group of structures for the Valley, affording us the opportunity to seek Doctors of the highest caliber, with individualized care provided in very impressive facilities for treatment of horrible and unpleasant diseases and/or pain.

Alan M. Wiener

Board Member

Al Wiener earned his M.B.A. with honors at the University of Chicago. He has held leadership positions in business as a director, president and chairman of private and public companies in diverse industries including light manufacturing, food processing, home building, computer software and automated traffic systems.

Al’s experience in the non-profit world includes service as President of Temple Judea, King of the Valley Jesters and President of the Senior’s Golf Association of Southern California. At El Caballero Country Club, he was the Founder and President of the club’s charitable arm, El Caballero Foundation.

Al and his wife, Nancy, have been married for over 60 years.

What motivates your desire to give back?

My father once asked that if I ever acquired the means, I’d return the kindness and support that community charities provided his family when he was young.

Why are you supporting the medical center?  

I believe in the need for a world class hospital serving our community. 

Why did you agree to join the foundation board?

I joined the foundation to help in governance and fundraising, in gratitude for the wonderful care I’ve received as a patient and for the honor of being part of this wonderful community endeavor. 

Thomas R. Soulé

Board Member

Thomas R. Soulé received a B.S. in Economics from the University of California, Riverside, and became a licensed Certified Public Accountant in 1974, starting with Price Waterhouse. In 1978, he established an accounting firm in North Hollywood serving manufacturing and service companies, as well as non-profit organizations.

He’s served on the Board of Directors of the North Hollywood Chamber since 1980. He’s also been on the Board of Directors of the Fernando Award Foundation for the past eight years and has served as President for the past two years.

Thomas and his wife Cathy have three children and four wonderful grandchildren

What motivates your desire to give back?

I’m deeply invested in giving back to my community.

Why are you supporting the medical center? 

Because of its direct contributions to the valley.

Why did you agree to join the foundation board?

It’s an honor to be involved with the Providence Cedars SinaiTarzana Medical Center.

Paul Pepperman

Board Member

Paul Pepperman has been a wealth management advisor at Merrill Lynch for the last 36 years and lived in the Tarzana community his whole life.

He’s active in a number of organizations, including The Jewish Federation of Los Angeles, The Jewish Home for The Aging, The Scleroderma Foundation, and the Adat Ari El Synagogue where he is a past president.

Paul and his wife, Jacalyn, have two adult daughters and three active grandchildren who also live in the local community.

What motivates your desire to give back?

I enjoy investing my time to give back to the community.

Why are you supporting the medical center? 

My family has benefited from the expertise and quality of Providence Cedars-Sinai Tarzana Medical Center for many, many years. 

Why did you agree to join the foundation board?

I am excited to be involved in the medical center’s ambitious plans for the future of healthcare in the Valley.

Nancy Norris

Board Member

Nancy Norris received her Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Alabama and attended graduate school at the University of Pennsylvania.

She is affiliated with a number of non-profit organizations, including Hadassah, the Jewish Federation, and the El Caballero Foundation.

Nancy and her family have lived in the Valley for over 48 years. She has three adult children and eight grandchildren.

What motivates your desire to give back?

I grew up with a wonderful mother who had little but constantly gave back to several charities with her time and donations. That impacted me so much as a child that working for worthy organizations has become my calling.

Why are you supporting the medical center? 

I spent many weeks, over several years, at Tarzana Hospital with my ill husband. Every day I felt the kindness of the doctors and nursing staff.

Why did you agree to join the foundation board?

From my past experiences, I knew that the Foundation Board would be the perfect place for me.

Robert Nairin

Board Member

Robert Nairin practiced law in downtown Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley for 51 years before entering retirement.

He and his wife Flo have been married for almost 60 years. They have three sons and eight grandchildren.

What motivates your desire to give back?

My parents were very philanthropic. I learned from them the value of helping others. It was important my wife and I pass this valuable trait on to our sons and grandchildren.

Why are you supporting the medical center? 

It is imperative to have exceptional healthcare in the San Fernando Valley. Two of my sons and a few of my grandchildren were born at Tarzana. Both my wife and I have spent time in the hospital and received first-rate care.

Why did you agree to join the foundation board?

My physician recommended that I become involved in the medical center. I joined the Providence Tarzana Board of Governors and am proud of what we have been able to accomplish.

Gary Mintz

Board Member

Gary Mintz served as the owner of Great America Group for 40 years. He retired in 2000.

He and his wife have lived in the valley since 1970. They have six children and seven grandchildren.

What motivates your desire to give back?

My father taught me the importance of giving back. It was very important to this great man to help others in his community. I have passed this on to my children.

Why are you supporting the medical center? 

I have used Tarzana many times for my healthcare and know how important a good hospital is. I love and respect my physicians.

Why did you agree to join the foundation board?

Since my retirement, I have had the time to be involved with the hospital and wanted to be of service to my community.

Pam Kessler

Board Member

Pam Kessler has over 25 years of real estate experience with demonstrated expertise in developing, leading, and executing capital markets and financial planning. She joined LTC Properties in 2000 and has served as the CFO since 2007, and Co-President since 2020.

Additionally, Pam is an independent director and member of the audit committee of Physician’s Realty Trust—a $4.5 billion health care REIT that acquires, owns, and manages medical office buildings and other healthcare properties that are leased to physicians, hospitals, and other healthcare providers throughout the United States. 

Pam and her husband, Steve, live in Thousand Oaks with their two children. 

What motivates your desire to give back?

My 8-month old son was treated for a life-threatening intestinal blockage at the hospital. They saved his life and I will be forever grateful.

Why are you supporting the medical center? 

I believe that residents of the San Fernando Valley should have access to the world-class care that Tarzana provides.

Why did you agree to join the foundation board?

To help raise money for the Tarzana Reimagined project and support the medical professionals that have given so much to our community. 

Daniel Kashani

Board Member

Daniel Kashani is the founder and CEO of TriStar Realty Group, a privately held, real estate development, investment and management company based in Los Angeles. He received his business degree from California State University Northridge and obtained his law degree from Florida Coastal School of Law in Jacksonville.

Daniel is a licensed real estate broker and a member of the State Bar of California. He also serves as a director-at-large for the West Valley-Warner Center Chamber of Commerce.  

He lives in Encino, California with his wife and children.

What motivates your desire to give back?

Giving back provides a sense of fulfillment and purpose. I grew up and went to school in the valley and care deeply about it. 

Why are you supporting the medical center?  

I was raised in Tarzana and the medical center has always played an important role in meeting my family’s health care needs. 

Why did you agree to join the foundation board?

I joined the board because I want to help support the center’s initiatives, including expanding services and bringing new, lifesaving technologies to enhance the care already available. 

Bruce W. Ferguson

Board Member

Bruce Ferguson earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin and is currently the CEO of Elevated Resources, a workforce management company. He has over 25 years of operational management experience, emphasizing a collaborative and decisive style.

He has served as the co-chairman for the Human Resources Metrics Consortium and authored a number of chapters and articles, on the essentials of HR BPO and creating an effective BPO model.

Bruce is a past president of the board of directors for the US Academic Decathlon Association and a frequent speaker at colleges and universities on leadership development and career aspirations.

Bruce previously served as Chairman of the Foundation Board for Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center and as Foundation Chair for Providence Cedar-Sinai Medical Center.

Bruce and his wife, Leza Rose–Ferguson, are proud parent of triplets.


Steven R. Fazio

Board Member

Steve Fazio holds an MBA and Doctorate from Pepperdine University and is the President and CEO of Fazio Dry Cleaners.

He’s the founding chair of the Sierra Canyon School Board, served as Fire Commissioner for Los Angeles County for three years, and is a senior fellow in the School of Public Policy at Pepperdine University.

Steve is also involved with several organizations, including the Young Presidents Organization, the American Jewish Committee, and New Majority Los Angeles. He’s a recipient of the Justice Armand Arabian Award and a member of several local chambers. He and his wife have four children.

What motivates your desire to give back?

If my life was just about earning a living and never doing anything for my community, it wouldn’t be nearly as fulfilling.

Why are you supporting the medical center? 

The adage that says, “You have nothing without your health.” If we don’t have a world-class medical center, we are not likely to sustain our health.

Why did you agree to join the foundation board?

The more I have an opportunity to meet the physicians, nurses, and dedicated hospital personnel, the more I feel privileged to be part of the hospital family.

Martin Evanson

Board Member

Marty Evanson received his Bachelor of Science in Animal Husbandry from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona before venturing into the meatpacking industry. He is now the co-founder and president of Jobber’s Meat Packing Co.

Currently, Marty’s company and subsidiary, WilMar Ground Meat, provide a million pounds of ground beef per week to retailers, food service companies, and restaurant distributors in California, Arizona, and Nevada.

Marty serves as Chairman of the Board of the North America Meat Association and is the 2014 recipient of the Richard Knowlton Award. He also sits on the College of Agriculture Dean’s Council and supports an endowed scholarship for undergraduate animal science students who demonstrate financial need.

Marty and his wife, Carol, have four grown children and eight grandchildren.

What motivates your desire to give back?

Giving back to the community helps return the support the community has given me as a business owner.

Why are you supporting the medical center?  

The medical center provides essential services to my family and my employees. 

Why did you agree to join the foundation board?

I was honored to join.

Charles Delle Donne

Board Member

Charlie Delle Donne attended UCLA Anderson School of Management. He works as an aviation professional and is committed to giving back to the community.

What motivates your desire to give back?

I have always tried to support different charities because it makes me feel good to help those in need.

Why are you supporting the medical center?  

Personally, I have been most fortunate in life and giving back is one of my top goals. The medical center is a critical piece to the welfare of Tarzana and other nearby residents.

Why did you agree to join the foundation board?

There is no question that without it, our community would be in need of assistance. And the foundation board is an important vehicle to find potential donors, as well as the necessary funds to sustain a new center.

Allison B. Clago

Board Member

Allison Clago is a well-known and respected Managing Director and Branch Manager at National Securities Corporation.

She’s lived in Tarzana since the 1950s and grew up in the house across the street from the estate of Edgar Rice Burroughs, author of the “Tarzan the Ape Man” and namesake of the Tarzana community. Her first job was on a paper route alongside mostly adolescent boys, who tossed the local paper from their bicycles.

Allison is a member of the Board of Governors of Providence Tarzana and a multimillion-dollar donor to the hospital.

What motivates your desire to give back?

Each day the sun will rise and the moon will come out. In between, we have control over how the day unfolds. You can’t always fix it when a person is suffering and too often we stand by helplessly, but we don’t have.

Why are you supporting the medical center? 

It is my community hospital. I was treated for breast cancer there, my beloved father peacefully passed there, and every member of my family has been treated there.

Why did you agree to join the foundation board?

To help raise money for the Tarzana Reimagined project and support our community.

Cesar Chavarria, MD

Board Member

Cesar Chavarria attended undergrad at Madrid College in Mexico City and medical school at the National Autonomous University of Mexico. He’s board certified in pediatrics and pediatric critical care.

In addition to holding a private practice at Tarzana in Pediatric Pulmonology and Critical Care, he’s also a Pediatric Advanced Life Support Instructor at the University of California at Irvine.

Cesar is a member of the American Medical Association, California Medical Association, and Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics

What motivates your desire to give back?

As I advance in my professional career I realize that we can help our fellow human beings in many different ways. Now is our time to help future generations.

Why are you supporting the medical center?  

Tarzana Hospital is a great hospital and continues to improve, since I started here 30 years ago. I see great potential and we are lucky to have it in our community.

Why did you agree to join the foundation board?

It’s been a great privilege for me to be a part of the foundation. We do important work, have clean and honorable motivations, and get to interact with very intelligent people doing good work for our community.

Karl L. Boeckmann

Board Member

Karl Boeckmann was born and raised in Glendale. He graduated from Hoover High, Glendale College and USC before serving in the Army in Panama. He then began work with Touche, Ross, Bailey & Smart, where he earned his C.P.A.

Karl has worked at Galpin Ford since 1965 and is currently Vice President of the company.  He’s been involved in a number of civic and charitable groups, including serving on the board at Goodwill Industries, NDY and the Fernando Foundation.

He lives in the San Fernando Valley with his wife, Thyra. 

What motivates your desire to give back?

I was always taught to be honest, work hard, help others and care for those who were less fortunate.    

Why are you supporting the medical center?  

I’ve been impressed by the dedication and efficiency of all the employees that I’ve met at Tarzana and the work that they perform. 

Why did you agree to join the foundation board?

I was one of the first people nominated to the board when Tarzana first became a non-profit. It’s been 11 years and I’ve been very pleased with my time here and what we as a Board have accomplished.  

Ralph Baca, MD

Board Member

Dr. Baca is currently the Medical Director of the Emergency Department at Providence Cedars-Sinai Tarzana Medical Center. He attended medical school at the University of California Los Angeles School of Medicine and completed his residency at Martin Luther King Jr. Medical Center. In 1991, Dr. Baca joined the Tarzana medical staff and has been in practice for over 29 years.

He is involved with the American Board of Emergency Medicine, American Medical Association and the Los Angeles County Medical Association. Serving on multiple hospital committees including Bioethics, STEMI, Stroke and Performance Improvement, while providing leadership in the Emergency department.

Dr. Baca has been a part of this community for over 32 years. He and his wife Raquel have three children: Rafael, Peter and Jasmin. 

What motivates your desire to give back?

My passion and commitment is to provide the best healthcare to our community.

Why are you supporting the medical center?  

I’ve been working in our emergency department since 1991.  

Why did you agree to join the foundation board?

To help provide excellent medical care in the most respectful and compassionate manner to our community. I recognize the importance of the Foundation’s role in achieving the necessary hospital growth in order to best serve the medical need of our community.

Pouria Abbassi

Board Member

Pouria Abbassi is a registered mechanical engineer in the state of California, and a graduate of UCLA School of Engineering and UCLA Anderson School of Executive Management. He has served as a CEO in multiple industries, including hospitality, healthcare and currently, higher education.

Pouria has been awarded over 30 business and community commendations, including the 2020 Ellis Island Medal of Honor Award. He sits on various boards including the Los Angeles Business Council and Beyond Vision Music Foundation.

He’s also an active member of the Pacific Council on International Policy and engaged with various policy and think tank groups at local and national levels. 

What motivates your desire to give back?

I strongly believe that the best acknowledgment of our gratitude is the value we’re able to give back towards the communities around us.

Why are you supporting the medical center?  

Tarzana is our community’s destination for so many life changing experiences — supporting the medical center can enhance those experiences and bring our community together.

Why did you agree to join the foundation board?

The transformation of healthcare and need to show compassion not only align with my own values, they are the core of the Providence philosophy. 

Matthew Rinnert

Chief Philanthropy Officer, Providence Tarzana Foundation

Matthew Rinnert is the Chief Philanthropy Officer of Providence Tarzana Foundation. He received his M.B.A from California State University, Northridge and his B.A. Political Science from University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Matt started his fundraising career as a Development and Finance Director for numerous political campaigns, traveling the country and spending several years in Washington, D.C.  

He now has more than two decades of experience as a senior development professional. Prior to joining Tarzana, Matt served as Assistant Vice President of University Development at California State University, Northridge (CSUN).

Jeremy Shapiro, MD

Chief of Staff, Providence Cedars-Sinai Tarzana Medical Center

Dr. Jeremy F. Shapiro joined Boulevard Pediatrics as a full-time pediatrician in June 2005.

He earned his B.S. in Biochemistry and Cell Biology and B.A. in Political Science at UC San Diego, and his master’s degree in Public Health/Epidemiology at UCLA. He then completed his medical degree at the Finch University of Health Sciences/The Chicago Medical School.

He was previously Chief of the Department of Pediatrics at Providence Tarzana Medical Center and now serves at Providence Cedars-Sinai Tarzana Medical Center as Chief of Staff. He’s also served as a medical advisor and writer for one of the nation’s largest, online, health-related social networking sites.  

Jeremy has three children with his wife, Nicole.

What motivates your desire to give back?

I place importance upon cultivating relationships with my patients and their families.

Why are you supporting the medical center? 

This medical center will serve as an even greater treasure to us all when we see the completion of the new campus. I proudly practice and live in the area and am excited to be a part it’s growth.

To give back to my patients and the community.

Claudia Wallack Samuels, PhD

Secretary

Claudia Wallack Samuels earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania, her master’s from UCLA, and her Ph.D. in Classics with a specialty in Ancient Coins and Antiquities from the University of Southern California.

She’s taught undergraduate classes in Latin, Greek Mythology, Latin Elements in English, and Writing at UCLA, USC and American Jewish University. She’s also worked for various antiquities galleries and coin companies in the Los Angeles area and co-authored a book related to her studies. 

She and her husband Sandy have three children and a grandchild.

What motivates your desire to give back?

Providence Cedars-Sinai Tarzana Medical Center is where our three children were born, and it’s been our go-to hospital for many trips to the ER over the past 40 years.

Why are you supporting the medical center?  

With the new Providence Cedars-Sinai Tarzana partnership, our community will have the benefit of a world class institution right in our own neighborhood.

Why did you agree to join the foundation board?

I’m very proud to be part of the Foundation board. Helping to build the Reimagined Project is philanthropy which will invest in our entire community for years to come.

Stephen Getzoff

Treasurer

A founding member of the Providence Tarzana Foundation Board of Governors, Stephen Getzoff received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from California State University, Los Angeles and his Master of Science in Business Administration from California State University, Northridge.

He’s been a certified public accountant since 1972 and is also a Certified Fraud Examiner, Diplomate of the American Board of Forensic Accountants and certified in Homeland Security. 

He has authored and co-authored several books and works with numerous community organizations. He and his wife Laura have three children and two grandchildren.

What motivates your desire to give back?

I was taught by my parents the importance of helping others and being compassionate about making our community a better place.   

Why are you supporting the medical center?  

The medical center is my community hospital and I feel the need to give my time and financial resources to support it.

Why did you agree to join the foundation board?

I was honored to be asked to join the board by Karl Boeckmann and became “hooked” once I did and learned the hospital’s mission.

Claire Marks

Chair Capital Campaign Committee

Claire Marks has been involved with a number of philanthropies relating to campaigning and fundraising. She’s deeply invested in assisting with Providence Cedars-Sinai Tarzana Medical Center.

What motivates your desire to give back?

I am blessed with a good life and want to share my blessings with others.

Why are you supporting the medical center? 

Tarzana Medical Center has always been close to my heart as my wonderful children were born there, and the care has always been topnotch.

Why did you agree to join the foundation board?

I wanted to be on the Foundation board to ensure that our new hospital would become a reality. I enjoy working with the like-minded, caring, and dedicated members of the foundation board. 

Fred Scholder

Vice Chair

Fred Scholder attended the High School of Music and Art in New York as a violinist. It’s there he met his wife, Evy Morgenstern, a student of piano and percussion.

Fred started his own companies, Aries Prepared Beef Company in 1975, and Smokehouse Pet Products in 1991. He’s founder at the Music Center, where he still plays violin, and a founding board member of the Chase Foundation, which supports the Child Life programs at UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital and Providence Cedars-Sinai Tarzana Medical Center.

Fred and Evy have two daughters. 

What motivates your desire to give back?

I’ve been fortunate to be able to grow a prosperous business and be part of raising a loving family. This has inspired my desire to contribute to my community.

Why are you supporting the medical center?  

I became involved with Tarzana nearly 40 years ago. My late wife Evy and I had been patients and wanted to show our appreciation. 

Why did you agree to join the foundation board?

I became a founding member of the Providence Foundation Board at a time when Evy was being treated for cancer in their oncology center. We experienced firsthand how profoundly important reliable and compassionate care is.

Jerald Einziger, MD

Chair

Dr. Jerald Einziger joined the Tarzana medical staff in 1976, serving on the executive committee multiple times while leading the Radiology department. For several years he served as director of both the Radiology Department and the Women’s Imaging Center.

Jerry graduated from St. Louis University School of Medicine. He completed an internship in pediatrics at LA CountyUSC Medical Center, his residency in radiology at the University of Rochester Strong Memorial Hospital, and his fellowship in pediatric radiology at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.

He and his wife Sheryl have five children.

What motivates your desire to give back?

Giving back helps me better understand the needs of my patients and serve them with more compassion.

Why are you supporting the medical center? 

I’ve been a part of this community for over 35 years and want to give back to it.

Why did you agree to join the foundation board?

When asked to join the foundation board over ten years ago, I eagerly accepted. I understand the importance of the foundation’s role in helping our hospital grow to serve the needs of our community.

Jeff DeMaio

Board Member

Jeff has over 28 years of experience providing personal financial advisory work at a leading global financial services firm.

He first became connected to St. Joseph Hospital when his Dad was being treated at the hospital.

Jeff and his wife, Elle, have three children.

What motivates your desire to give back?
Helping others can be very fulfilling. There are many great organizations and people who do amazing things, and have tremendous programs in place, but just don’t have all the resources they need.

Why are you supporting the medical center?
I admire the environment at St. Joe’s where there’s a sincere focus on the patient experience and care for all among a diverse community of patients.

Why did you agree to join the foundation board?
The mission of the foundation and caregivers at St. Joseph Hospital is genuine and impactful to many. The culture of the board and dedication to helping the hospital serve the patients, inspired me to be part of the board to help others where I can through my skills and experience.

Joe Conway

Board Member

Joe Conway received his Bachelor of Science in Finance at California State University, Fullerton.

He is currently president of Diversified Investment Services, Inc., a full-service financial planning firm.  He’s also been the Chair of the Foundation’s Golf Committee for the past six years.

Joe and his wife Vickie have four children and two grandchildren.

What motivates your desire to give back?
Anyone can give their treasure, but giving your time is the extra step.

Why are you supporting the medical center?  
Both my parents had cancer and were treated very well at the hospital years ago, so it will always have a soft place in my heart. The employees at St. Joseph Hospital really seem to care about their patients above and beyond, it’s not just a job. 

Why did you agree to join the foundation board?
I agreed to be on the foundation board because it gives me the opportunity to give back and also participate with ideas and events that will hopefully make St. Joseph’s Hospital an even better place than it is today. 

Paige Baker

Board Member

Paige Baker is a practicing attorney, wife and mother. She graduated from USC with both a bachelor’s and master’s in Education.

She earned her law degree at Western State University College of Law, where she graduated with honors and was Managing Editor of Law Review. She’s currently a senior partner of Baker & Baker, emphasizing her practice of Estate Planning and Trust litigation.

Paige and her husband William have three adult children.

What motivates your desire to give back?
My mother’s message was “be kind to others when you leave this house.” I am happy to say that though my mother is gone, her message is alive and well in her children.  

Why are you supporting the medical center?  
There is no place on earth I support more than St. Joseph Hospital, the nuns, the doctors and the staff who complete the picture of a place of healing and health — a true mission. My fondest memories are of our children being born there.

Why did you agree to join the foundation board?
In light of the fact that the Foundation invites others to give, it seems natural to me that I would want to do this work and I love doing it.

John Dal Poggetto

Board Member

John has worked in healthcare technology and provider services for over 20 years. John, his wife Tammy, and his daughter Giana reside in San Juan Capistrano.

What motivates your desire to give back?
I’ve been in the healthcare industry for most of my career and it’s been very good to me. I feel at this point in my career, it’s time to give back and to do so with a mission and faith-driven organization.

Why are you supporting the medical center?  
My daughter was born at St. Joseph’s and my mom’s family has been in Orange County for two generations. St. Joseph’s has been my family since the 1930’s, when my great aunt was one of the first female pharmacists at there.

Why did you agree to join the foundation board?
Being on the foundation board allows me to see my work and contributions up close while participating in a great organization with amazing people

Donald A. Hunsberger

Board Member

Don Hunsberger is founder and Senior Principal at Hunsberger Dunn LLP, attorneys in Tustin, California. His sole areas of practice include Estate Planning, Trust Administration and Probate Administration.

He has volunteered in various advisory and board capacities with four schools, two colleges, three hospitals, six Catholic entities, two prison ministries and five children’s programs.  He’s also published articles in twelve journals, co-authored an Estate Planning Encyclopedia, and served as an editor for The Journal of Financial Service Professionals since 1989.

Don and his wife Cathie have four children and eight grandchildren. 

What motivates your desire to give back?
Helping the sick and feeding the hungry are embedded in my religious values.

Why are you supporting the medical center?  
I look at the work of the hospital as a ministry which is clearly included in the Scriptural mandate of helping those who cannot help themselves in their lives.

Why did you agree to join the foundation board?
My resolve to join grew when my daughter came to St. Joseph’s during the loss of her twin daughters. The Catholic-based care that she received warmed both my wife’s and my hearts.

Alison Gooding

Board Member

Alison Gooding attended Northeastern University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene. She’s worked for numerous dental and medical sales companies, including Pfizer, Warner Lambert and Proctor & Gamble.

She is now a busy mother of two teenagers, and active in various community groups including PEO, Women of Vision and Boys and Girls Club.  

What motivates your desire to give back?
My family’s legacy of involvement is important to me. St. Joseph continues to do an incredible job providing care to the community and has also had a huge impact with me personally, and with family and friends that have been treated at the hospital.

Why are you supporting the medical center?  
I was born at St. Joseph Hospital and I believe in its Mission.

Why did you agree to join the foundation board?
When invited to join the foundation board, I was happy and honored to do so. It has given me many great opportunities to become involved and give back to my community.

Ron Thon

Board Member

Ron Thon has worked in the financial services profession – including banking, retirement planning, estate and financial planning – since the early 1970’s.

He fully retired as Chairman and CEO of Bankers Pension Services 14 years ago, after selling his company. Since then, he and his wife have dedicated themselves to giving back to faith-based organizations like St. Joseph’s. 

What motivates your desire to give back?
My wife and I were looking for deserving charities and discovered that working with St. Joseph was an excellent way to truly understand the need for giving.

Why are you supporting the medical center?  
Our family has experienced the outstanding medical care at St Joseph’s since the birth of my brother-in-law in 1938. Both our daughters and grandchildren were also born here and anytime our family has been in need of medical care, St. Joe’s has always come through with the best.

Why did you agree to join the foundation board?
I joined largely because of my association with banking board associates who also serve on the St. Joseph Board. 

Sr. Nadine McGuinness

Board Member

Sister Nadine McGuinness has taught history, spiritual living practices and theology for many years. She’s also directed teaching institutes for Catholic dioceses seeking to instruct adults on becoming educators.

She’s written several textbooks and teacher’s manuals for adolescent and high school students and teachers.  Presently, she is focused on the contributions of Pope Francis to the reform of structures and styles of interaction in the Catholic Church.

Sister McGuinness is one of three daughters. 

What motivates your desire to give back?
I’ve met wonderful, gifted people who’ve brought so much help to me through St. Joseph Hospital through the years. I’d like to say “Thank you” — and doing so makes me feel that we are all a part of this big ministry of caring for, empowering and appreciating the personal efforts of one another.

Why are you supporting the medical center?  
I have come home to the Motherhouse of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange, which is in the backyard of St. Joseph Hospital, for more than 50 years. 

Why did you agree to join the foundation board?
I like to learn from people. I am energized by the varieties of gifts I experience in Foundation members.

Ivan Turpin, MD

Board Member

Ivan Turpin received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Utah before studying general surgery at UCLA and plastic surgery at University of California at Irvine.

He served as a medical officer for the Navy during the Vietnam War. He’s currently a surgeon at SJH and Clinical Professor of Plastic Surgery at UCI.

Ivan and his wife Darlene have one son and one grandson.

What motivates your desire to give back?
I’m motivated to participate in the foundation because it allows me the opportunity to improve the lives of others.

Why are you supporting the medical center?
With the tremendous advances in the technological aspects of health care, it’s critical that new equipment is made available to our physicians. With reimbursement for services being unable to keep up with the costs of modern technology, it becomes vital to seek funding from other sources.

Why did you agree to join the foundation board?
The St. Joseph Foundation Board plays a crucial role in ensuring funding is available. By joining the Board, I feel I can bring knowledge and expertise to the table and have an opportunity to meet and work with new people that have a similar sense of purpose.

Gemma Seidl

Board Member

Gemma Seidl, RN, MSN, MPH, PHN is Executive Director of Acute Care Services, Nursing Operations and Clinical Informatics Systems at St. Joseph Hospital, where she has worked since 2008.

She has a Masters in Nursing Administration from Cal State Fullerton and Masters in Public Health from Aristotle University. Over her 30 year career, she’s been recognized as an authority on sepsis, critical care best practices and nursing leadership. She’s been nominated several times for St. Joseph Hospital’s Values in Actions awards.

Gemma and her husband Michael have one son.

What motivates your desire to give back?
It is a calling to be a nurse and caring for our dear neighbor is a privilege and obligation to give back not just financially but with time, treasure and talent.

Why are you supporting the medical center?
I’m front and center on the needs of the hospital and the population we serve. Supporting the medical center is another way for me to support patients I see every day.

Why did you agree to join the foundation board?
One of my goals is to provide feedback on donor supported initiatives to ensure that they’re being used to save patients’ lives and improve caregiver work environments.

Dr. Warren “Dave” Johnston

Board Member

Dr. Johnston has been a practicing cardiologist at St. Joseph Hospital since 1983.

He is also Director of St. Joseph Women’s Heart Center, Physician Site Director of St. Joseph Heritage Cardiology Division, Chairman of the St. Jude St. Joseph Heritage Cardiology Department, Medical Director of Orange County/High Desert Providence Heart Institute and Co-Director of the Southern California Providence Heart Institute.

He and his wife have three daughters, two of whom have been nurses at St. Joe’s.

What motivates your desire to give back?
I was an only child. My father left us when I was 5. A lot of people have given to me along the way and I wouldn’t have made it without them, so I feel it’s important to give back now.

Why are you supporting the medical center?
St. Joseph’s has a vibe unlike any other hospital. People really care and everyone matters here – from the people who change sheets to the doctors and nurses.

Why did you agree to join the foundation board?
My goal is to expand the board to patients and community members who have benefited from our presence and motivate them to continue to contribute and improve the hospital.

Lizanne Ball Monahan

Lizanne Ball Monahan attended UCI and graduated from California State University, Fullerton with a Bachelor of Arts in Business. She has an emphasis in Marketing. She and her husband, Dennis, have 3 children and 6 grandkids.

What motivates your desire to give back?
I feel it is important to care for our community and each other in any way that we can. I learned this at an early age, watching my parents and grandparents generously give of themselves.

Why are you supporting the medical center?
Each of the Ball doctors were proud to serve at a hospital that was on the cutting edge of new medical procedures and innovative technology. As a member of the Ball family, I’m committed to helping the hospital continue this tradition, and have been happy to support St. Joseph’s with both treasure and time.

Why did you agree to join the foundation board?
My involvement with the Foundation Board has enabled me to maintain the strong relationship between my family and the St. Joseph Hospital community, which has always been a part of my life.

Amy Daugherty

Chief Philanthropy Officer

Amy received her Bachelor’s degree in Communications, with a focus on Public Relations, from California State University at Fullerton. She’s been in the medical non-profit industry for over 25 years in local, regional & national roles.

She started her role at St. Joseph in September 2019 with the belief that people will go above and beyond if treated right and given the proper tools to succeed.

Amy lives in Laguna Niguel and enjoys a very full life that includes her significant other, David.

What motivates your desire to give back?
I love the mission and values of St. Joseph Hospital.

Why are you supporting the medical center?
I believe the impact of philanthropy changes the footprint in our community by ensuring that our ministry has the best technology, education, caregivers, research and ultimately patient outcomes.

I have a strong background in strategic planning, physician/surgeon cultivation and fundraising through grateful patient giving and love working with donors and volunteers.

Tanja Cebula

Chair-Elect

Tanja Cebula graduated from Oregon State University with a B.S. in accounting, then earned her M.B.A. from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.

She co-founded the Be Aware Foundation in 2004 and has served on the boards of the Oregon State University Foundation and the Oregon Council for Hispanic Advancement.

Prior to retirement, she was Executive Vice President of Talent at Resources Global Professionals where she was a founding leader and member for over 21 years. She and her husband John have twin sons and one daughter.

What motivates your desire to give back?
I’m a breast cancer survivor. Having a community hospital in our backyard that gives us access to some of the best care and doctors in the U.S. means a lot to me.

Why are you supporting the medical center?
St. Joseph Hospital stands out because of its commitment to serve all patients with compassion and dedication. The Sisters of St. Joseph’s value system is felt throughout the walls of the hospital and people who work there.

Why did you agree to join the foundation board?
I’m passionate about people and having an opportunity to serve and work alongside them, all united to achieve the mission of the hospital.

Curtis Kauffman

Board Member

Curtis Kauffman earned a B.A. in Communications from Cal State Fullerton and completed graduate studies in theology at Mount St. Mary’s in L.A.

After serving in the U.S. Air Force, Curt launched a career in healthcare and business communications. He’s been the owner of his own publishing company since 1988 and is a current strategic planning consultant for medical imaging leaders.

Curtis and his wife Mary have 6 children and 18 grandchildren.

What motivates your desire to give back?
As a health care writer and publisher, I’ve always been in awe of the people on the front lines of medicine who work so hard to keep our population healthy.

Why are you supporting the medical center?
Being involved with St. Joseph Hospital is an extension of ministry for me and an opportunity to give back to the profession of health care that sustained me professionally for over 40 years.

Why did you agree to join the foundation board?
The board is a very professional organization and I was eager to be part of such an extremely gifted and motivated team.

Charlene Immell

Board Member

Charlene attended the University of California at Berkeley before returning to her hometown of Santa Ana and getting involved in her community.

She has won numerous awards including the Panhellenic Athena Award, the Spirit of St. Joseph Award with her husband, Mike, and the Woman of the Year Award from the Boys and Girls Club of Central Orange Coast where she is a long-time Board member and Past President. She is also active in a variety of groups including the Board of Special Olympics, Orange County, and Chapter AB, PEO.

Charlene and her husband Mike have three children.

What motivates your desire to give back?
My parents were the best example of supporting the causes they believed in, advocating for positive changes, and serving the community. Their hard work and generosity knew no limits.

Why are you supporting the medical center?
Two of our three children were born at St. Joseph. From a lifetime of care here, I have great respect for the physicians and caregivers who truly are the heart of the hospital.

Why did you agree to join the foundation board?
I love the mission and the caring people I encounter, including the doctors, the staff, and my fellow volunteers.

Ray Stermer

Board Member

Ray Stermer has practiced as a Clinical Hospital Pharmacist and Consultant for over 30 years. He’s worked in several areas of his profession, including sales and marketing, homecare, drug distribution and infusion therapy.

His late wife, Joanne M. Stermer, served as the Executive Director of Surgical Services and Endoscopy at the hospital for 15 years. During this time, she said she loved practicing at St. Joseph Orange better than any other hospital because of its mission and vision, staff and holy sisters.

Ray and his family are now fully committed to the success of SJO.

What motivates your desire to give back?
My desire to give back is a result of my sincere love for the mission and vision of the hospital.

Why are you supporting the medical center?
I am committed to maintaining the strong legacy of my late wife.

Why did you agree to join the foundation board?
I joined the board to help it achieve its philanthropic goals. It is very important that our community truly understands the necessity and importance of this board to SJO.

Marc Harper

Board Member

Marc Harper earned his B.S. in Business Administration with an option in professional accountancy from California State University, Long Beach, and a J.D. from Western State University College of Law.

He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, American Bar Association, and the California Society of CPAs.

Marc and his wife Lura have three children together, and three grandchildren.

What motivates your desire to give back?
I was taught from an early age that we don’t do anything alone. Supporting our neighbors, community and beyond is important to being a productive and good member of society. I believe that if we are fortunate enough to be able to give back, we have an obligation, and privilege, to do so.

Why are you supporting the medical center?
Health care is an essential service and one which should be available to everyone. St. Joseph provides a safety net for so many in our community.

Why did you agree to join the foundation board?
The compassion and passion for caregiving I witnessed from the sisters, the hospital staff, and the Foundation staff before joining.

Eileen Doody

Board Member

Eileen Doody has been a Senior Vice President with Madison Marquette — formerly known as PMRG — for over 20 years, specializing in all aspects of Medical Real Estate.

She has worked with St. Joseph hospital on a business level for 17 years.

She and her husband have lived in Huntington Beach and raised their family there for over 40 years.

What motivates your desire to give back?
I believe in the old saying “what goes around comes around”. I have found that service to others and giving back provides food for my soul.

Why are you supporting the medical center?
I have had the privilege to interact with many of the physicians that serve this Hospital. They have inspired me on a daily basis with their dedication and empathetic care of patients.

Why did you agree to join the foundation board?
Over the years I have seen first-hand the commitment and collaboration that the Board has contributed to the success of the Hospital and its programs. I also appreciate how the board thoughtfully maximizes the return of each dollar back into the hospital.

Lisa McGregor

Board Member

Lisa McGregor is the owner of Windrose Travel.

She is active in several professional and trade groups and over the past 25 years has held various leadership positions at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She’s also served on the City of Anaheim Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast Committee, the Orange Chamber of Commerce and various PTA Board positions including a district position.

What motivates your desire to give back?
I am motivated to give back in order to express gratitude for the blessings I have received.

Why are you supporting the medical center?
I trust St Joseph Hospital and know it does good work that enhances the quality of life in the community. My youngest child and three granddaughters were born here, my grandmother and parents have been patients, and my daughter was a volunteer for two years before deciding to pursue a career in healthcare.

Why did you agree to join the foundation board?
I have always had a positive experience with St Joseph Hospital and the Foundation staff and am proud to be associated with the team.

David Margileth, MD

Manager, Business Development at St. Joseph Hospital of Orange

Dr. David Margileth has been on the Medical Staff of St Joseph Hospital for 44 years. He earned his Bachelor’s in Chemistry at Occidental College before attending med school at Baylor College.

He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology and has held a private practice at St. Joseph hospital since 1976. He served as the Director of Cancer at the hospital until 1989 and is presently Medical Director of Genetics Services.

Dr. Margileth and his wife have five children and 13 grandchildren.

What motivates your desire to give back?
To maintain St Joseph Hospital as an excellent community hospital. The foundation benefits the Medical Staff and the support staff at the hospital but more importantly, benefits patients taken care of at our hospital.

Why are you supporting the medical center?
The funds provided by the Foundation through philanthropy are crucial to making it possible to provide new services, including our new linear accelerator in the Radiotherapy Department and the structural heart program.

Why did you agree to join the foundation board?
I joined the Foundation Board to help the hospital provide funds to update facilities and obtain the most up-to-date equipment to maintain the excellence of our hospital.

Dr. Jeff Johnsrud

Board Member

Dr. Jeff Johnsrud attended undergraduate and medical school at USC, before serving his residency at LAC-USC Medical Center.

He practiced at St. Joseph from 1987 – 2016 as a general surgeon.

Dr. Johnsrud now splits time between Newport Beach and Idaho with his partner Mary and Yellow Labrador Gracie.

What motivates your desire to give back?
The compassionate mission of St. Joseph to care for everyone regardless of ability to pay and the generous hearts of the Sisters of St. Joseph.

Why are you supporting the medical center?
Because I believe in the mission and know that it takes more than just operating revenue to make our hospital the best it can be.

Why did you agree to join the foundation board?
I practiced at St. Joseph for a long time, knew a lot of employees there and wanted to be a liaison between the foundation and the physicians. I also wanted to help inspire other physicians to be a part of our philanthropic mission.

James G. Hart

Board Member

James Hart has been in executive management for over 15 years, working in the global technology industry. During this time, he’s built strong working relationships with many leading governmental agencies, including the World Health Organization (WHO), International Red Cross and Centers for Disease Control (CDC).

In 2019, he was inducted into the Irish Technology Leadership Group’s Hall of Fame at Stanford University. And as a co-chair in 2002, he was responsible for helping the Irvine Residents with Disabilities Advisory Board earn a $25,000 grant.

James and his wife Tracey have been married for 19 years. They have four children.

What motivates your desire to give back?
I was raised in a devout Irish Catholic family and my parents instilled the responsibility to always work on behalf of others, especially seniors, disabled and those in need.

Why are you supporting the medical center?
I believe in the story of the Sisters of St. Joseph and their mission of “Serving thy dear neighbor.” I’m also a member of St. Joseph’s Spiritual Care team.

Why did you agree to join the foundation board?
I was asked by a friend. It’s something I’ve really jumped into.

Jennifer Kovac

Board Member

Jennifer Kovac received her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Oregon before entering a career in healthcare management and consultation.

She is currently Manager of Business Development at St. Joseph Hospital and has worked with physician relations there for over 14 years.

Jen and her husband Gary have two children.

What motivates your desire to give back?
The exceptional clinical and spiritual care I’ve witnessed patients receive at St. Joseph through my years as an employee.

Why are you supporting the medical center?
Three generations of my family have celebrated the beginning and end of life care at St. Joseph Hospital. I want to pass this legacy of care to other families.

Why did you agree to join the foundation board?
When a patient’s life has been renewed and they want to honor the physician, an impact is made on the hospital and recognition is given to our amazing doctors. I’ve seen first hand how equipment and facility upgrades would not have been funded if it weren’t for these gifts from grateful patients.

Randy Davis, PhD

Board Member

A licensed psychologist, Dr. Davis has been both a healthcare practitioner and Senior Executive throughout his career. This includes being the Founder, CEO and President of Statewide Behavioral Health Management Company, College Health IPA, and Comprehensive Behavioral Health Management. He’s also Division President of Beacon Health Options — the largest nationally managed behavioral healthcare organization.

As President of RCD Consulting, Dr. Davis assists regional and national behavioral health companies with strategy and growth and helps private equity companies with behavioral health-related initiatives. He’s also a member of the Board of Counselors for Argyros School of Business at Chapman University and a Trustee for Semester at Sea.

What motivates your desire to give back?
While my primary interest continues to be in Behavioral Health, I am committed to helping integrate these important services with the total healthcare experience.

Why are you supporting the medical center?
I looked at many opportunities to help after retirement and find St Joseph’s like-minded with their mission and commitment to quality care.

Why did you agree to join the foundation board?
My prior neighbor invited me to consider joining the Foundation Board and I have enjoyed the people and the experience over the last few years.

Jeremy Zoch, PhD, MHA, FACHE

Chief Executive

Jeremy Zoch received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Management from Iowa State and his Master of Health Administration from Washington University in St. Louis. He completed his PhD in Health Related Sciences, Health Administration from Virginia Commonwealth University.

He began at St. Joseph Hospital in 2012 serving as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, and in 2017 became Chief Executive. Additionally, he has served as a board member and chair of United Cerebral Palsy and as an adjunct instructor at USC.

Jeremy and his wife Jenette have two children.

What motivates your desire to give back?
My personal values and faith – serving in body, mind, and spirit.

Why are you supporting the medical center?
St. Joseph Hospital feels like “home.” I appreciate it as a place that not only connects with excellence and innovation, but also in “how” the care is provided and how patients are served in a holistic manner.

Why did you agree to join the foundation board?
Serving on the board allows me to make the most impact in our community and in my everyday work.

Bob Baldwin

Chair

Bob is the Foundation Board chair, championing the mission of St. Joseph Hospital throughout Orange County.

Bob Baldwin spent thirty years with The Walt Disney Company, starting in operations and eventually moving into marketing and sales with Parks and Resorts in California, Florida, Tokyo and Paris.

He’s spent the past twenty years with a leisure industry consulting firm dealing with theme parks, museums, world expos and similar venues.

Bob has been married to his wife Sandi for forty years. They have two children and two grandchildren, both of whom were born at St. Joseph.

What motivates your desire to give back?
I feel it’s important to give back to your community and I like the opportunity to contribute my marketing skills in a meaningful way.

Why are you supporting the medical center?
I hadn’t known much about St. Joseph Hospital but came to realize it was an important resource for our local community and needed to be supported.

Why did you agree to join the foundation board?
A friend who was very involved with the hospital introduced me to the Foundation Board and it was a natural fit.

Alejandro E. Ramirez, MD

Board Member

Dr. Ramirez has worked as an anesthesiologist at St. Joseph Hospital for over 31 years. He currently is the Medical Director of Surgical Services, St. Joseph Hospital and Medical Director, Pavilion Surgery Center.

As the birthplace of his youngest daughter and both of their grandsons, he and his wife Vicky have many professional and personal memories at St. Joe’s.

Appreciative of how much the hospital means to the community, Alex is eager to promote that sense of community and influence the greatest number of people to do good.

What motivates your desire to give back?
I’m constantly inspired by the caregivers I work with each day. They’re all so committed to the hospital and what we stand for. Seeing them in action gives confidence in what we do for humanity – there is a specific culture of kindness here.

Why are you supporting the medical center?
If my teammate in another department doesn’t have the best of everything, we’re not as strong as we could be. I give to areas with the highest need to build the strongest team possible.

Why did you agree to join the foundation board?
Over the years I have seen firsthand the important work the Foundation has done for our hospital.
